Our Yellow Duck year, ages 2½ - 3½ years old, is a transition year. There is largely a focus on social/emotional skills and language development. This is a time for the youngest of us to adjust to a school environment and to learn what it means to be a part of a community. The first part of the year is spent on bonding activities and helping the children come together as a class. As we move through the year, we work on expanding the development of gross motor skills, and beginning development of fine motor skills in order to be better prepared for the challenges of the following years. We strive to create independent children who are confident in their place in the classroom and are capable of helping themselves. While we do not require these children to be potty trained, we work closely with parents to develop a toilet learning plan to be completed by the end of the school year.
